PFM’s Pulsar Praised by Medical Device Customer

Quality and integrity are key factors for packaging in high risk environments such as pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, and PFM Packaging Machinery is ideally placed to meet the most demanding requirements with a multitude of satisfied blue-chip customers.

Well known across multiple food and non- food sectors for its impressive range of automated packaging solutions, PFM can offer a validation protocol right up to 21CFR11 alongside Pack ML Software structure to fully integrate into a complete line philosophy operating system, featuring hygienic construction, traceability and hermetic seals.

PFM’s latest satisfied customer is Intersurgical, a global designer, manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of high quality medical devices for respiratory support.
The specialist company now runs three PFM Pulsar Stainless Steel flowrappers to safely wrap individual breathing systems that include a number of components, which are then supplied direct to hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

The Pulsar is a full servo horizontal wrapping machine producing pillow-pack bags and designed to wrap products of different sizes and shapes, thanks to its LVA feature for the automatic adjustment of packaging according to product length – which can be a disadvantage on some thermoforming machines.
All the parts that come in contact with the product can be sanitised and sealing time is extended in order to guarantee hermetic sealing.

Clive Tuck, Production Engineering Manager at Intersurgical, explained: “Intersurgical have recently purchased two new PFM flow wrapper machines for the packaging of medical devices. The reason to purchase them was that we have had similar machines before and we needed machines that are reliable and suited to our product range.

“The machines have the flexibility to cover a large range of product sizes and types, and are easy to set up with minimal down time between changeovers. The support for setting up and commissioning of the machines has been good and this included installing the recipes for our products. Overall the PFM machines meet our company and product needs and provide our customers with a securely and professionally packed product.”

Kevin Mabley of PFM added: “We are delighted that Intersurgical was so pleased with the first solution that they bought another two machines from us. We have the greatest confidence in our own packaging lines but it’s always very gratifying to receive a ringing endorsement like this.

“PFM is highly experienced in pharma and healthcare solutions, especially with medical devices. We’re proud of being a family-owned business providing trusted and proven technology and an R&D team that is second to none. Yes, we have machines that create hermetic leak proof seals but we also have the ability to add Tyvek for ethylene oxide sterilisation and other medical substrates and provide a one stop shop with our validation partners.”

PFM has the reputation for being a responsive automation partner. Both the UK and Irish Republic are covered from its Leeds headquarters with sales and servicing of a variety of equipment and parts for automating lines that can help manufacturers cut costs and reduce pack wastage.
