A Pearl, servo-driven flow-wrapper from PFM Packaging Machinery is providing Lake District bakery, ‘From Cumbria with Love’, with extra capacity to meet rising demand.
Based near the market town of Keswick, in the stunning English Lake District, local bakery ‘From Cumbria with Love’ is an independent manufacturer of a variety of Tiffin, Flapjack, Scones and Cakes. Since 2017 owner Laura Johnson and her dedicated team have been supplying ‘Cakes from the Lakes’ to a wide range of local businesses, including their own amazing café, ‘Laura in the Lakes’, situated right on Keswick Main Street.
To coincide with the bakery’s move to a traditional Lake District stone built, purpose fit out premises, and in order to stream line the packaging of products, Laura decided to invest in a new flowrapper. This had been on the wish list for some years and was cemented into the business plan after seeing the PFM Pearl flowrapper at an exhibition.
The PFM Pearl is a 3 axis-servo flowrapper enabling independent control over the infeed conveyor, film and sealing assembly. Standard features include self-centring reel holder, electronic control over print registered wrapping materials, no product no bag and misplaced product detection. With hygienic cantilever design, the versatility of the Pearl means it is used by companies from independent manufacturers to multinationals.
Following product trials and demonstration at PFM UK’s showroom in Leeds the decision was made to purchase a Stainless Steel Pearl, which was delivered and commissioned just 3 weeks later.
According to Laura: “It’s a complete game changer and the most beautiful piece of machinery ever!! Gone are the evenings wrapping for hours and our production capacity has risen sharply , I’m excited for the development of the business now as this opens up so many more sales opportunities whilst expanding our product range . The team at PFM have been fantastic , they have listened to us at the initial visit to ensure they knew what our exact needs were and given us fantastic support to get the right machine installed within our business ‘Robert Wrapper’ is now a dedicated member of our team and we wouldn’t be without him!”
