PFM would like to reassure our customers and keep you all up to date regarding how we’ve adapted to the current Covid-19 crisis to support everyone and help you keep supply lines running around the clock.
As a key supplier of packaging machinery to the meat, cheese, fresh produce and medical sectors, we understand that many FMCG factories are having to significantly increase output as a result of the crisis, and this is putting a heavy strain on packaging machinery. This is an extremely challenging time for all of us, and in response to this, PFM has implemented rapid turnaround times for stock new machinery orders, spare parts and servicing.
We have amassed a large stock of spare parts at our headquarters in Leeds and are continuing to service the UK and the Republic of Ireland from this base. In addition, any parts needing to be shipped directly from Italy in emergency situations can be delivered within 24 hours.
Our own European production facilities are continuing to function in line with current government guidance, with PFM factories on the whole running at 90% of full capacity. Here in the UK the majority of PFM staff are working from home, however we have ensured that our engineers still working from the Leeds operation and/or out on the road are following stringent hygiene practices and social distancing.
Due to the vital importance of protecting consumers from the virus by all means possible, we have put arrangements in place for particularly quick turnaround times for certain stock items of machinery, for example, those required to wrap items like fresh bread, which previously would have been left unpackaged and exposed.
We are also continuing to provide pre-product packaging trials for items like wet wipes and medical products, and pharmaceuticals destined for the NHS. In addition, we have begun to work with suppliers of oxygen piping for medical facilities. Our overriding aim is to continue to support all our customers and potential customers in the months ahead.
